GOALS-

Linking children to a positive future by reading enhancement.
Using creativity and computers as learning tools to motivate and inspire student achievement.
Allowing student centered discovery through dynamic interaction.
Supporting fluency development through practice, decoding, and participation.

THE PROBLEM-

Reading is more than multiple choice in the information age
On the Digital Coast from, Vancouver to San Diego, with interdependent economy, it is vital to be literate
It's a skill vital to democracy and to being employed

The need to learn to read means access or marginalization..........

Children in the 5 county area are not reading satisfactorily in English
They will not acquire competency as students or citizens without immediate remediation
The papers are full of information about the problem
Our schools and reading programs are only part of the solution

Reading must be redefined to fit the skills demanded by our new economy
It might better be called media literacy.........

Reading has increased in its dynamics to be the gateway to be a shut door or a gateway to the future
It no longer is a matter of routine recognition of symbols, or bi-lateral choices
To read means to manipulate sound, graphics, and software
It means to develop critical skills, creative thinking and begin to do problem solving
It can mean inventiveness and collaboration
It demands technical skill, discrimination and participation with content
Reading has reached a higher level of personal interactivity with the computer and emmerging technologies

The Mindspan Project invites you to participate in providing a solution.......

Take a leadership role by funding 300 children of 13,300 to participate in our literacy tour
Each patch on our coat of many colors represents $500 or 300 children
You can support your future employees to come from children across LA by sponsoring 1200 children for $2000. a year. You can display your logo on our internet quilt of many colors for $500 per quarter per year
Your patch will be your logo attractively displayed either on our tour performing costumes or on the web
You can sponsor 8 performances per school for $6400 per school at $4.00 per child per school show
Fund our website development, and its Digital Trends Newsletter by Internet banner advertising
Link your site and set up a marketing affiliation program

Who will you be helping?

At-Risk students in Los Angeles and the four surrounding counties
By the featuring the Digital Literacy Concert Tour
Live or on the Internet
Academic Year 2000-2003 and Summer Breaks
Live in-school events to encourage academic mastery, reading and language acquistion skills

Why?

You will join your peers and be part of the solution
You will create a positive social impression for these children and the greater community
You will be helping an innovative program gather research to help teachers, parents and children expand their concept of reading
You will be helping future employees find your company and bear it good will
You will create a culture of reading that brings kids to our public libraries to appreciate publishing
You will give them a personal vision of the future that includes their own potential

Write a check to New Life Options for the Mindspan Program in $500.00, $2000.00 or school increments
Designate your level of support and permission to use your logo for reproduction for our coat or quilt
